The Playset & Stimulus Check

April 27th, 2008 Posted in Budgeting & Finance, Entertainment

The Woodridge Playset at Sams ClubI’m sure all parents out there have had to make the big decision at one time or another. What kind of playset are we getting? I’ve been researching that over the past several months and come to the verdict that the Woodridge Wooden Swing Set at Sam’s Club is the best of the best (for the price). Yeah, you’ll find some crazy expensive ones out there for $5,000+, but come on; we’ll save that cash for the car, prom dresses and other stuff that’s coming down the line.

Since we’ve been talking about getting one for so long, and the government is sending out the stimulus checks (aka: citizen payoff) we’re going for it. That the government is sending out a check is ridiculous, devaluing currency, poor use of taxpayer money, increased debt, not the responsibility of government, etc. But I’ll digress.

The Woodridge is available at just about any Sam’s Club for $1,199 and from what the reviews have said, expect a full weekend for the construction. I’ve looked at all kinds, from the Lowe’s & Home Depot ones, Toys R Us, Target, etc. Here’s my top list of playsets that I’ve found:

  1. The Woodridge Wooden Swing Set:
Found at Sam’s Club for $1,199. It’s not the cheapest one on the block, but is by far the best. It’s got everything that a kid could want and everything a parent needs. the building materials are the best of the best and all the reviews are superb.
  2. The Mountain Chalet:
You’ll find this one at The Yard Store (South Carolina) or at any Play Nation retailer. I was not able to get pricing on these as of yet, but will update this post when I do. They’ve got a ton of very cool designs and features, but availability and price may make the Woodridge a better option.
  3. Aspen Lodge II:
This one was a close contender, it’s got a ton of great features and a good price point. We got scared away from this one because we couldn’t see it (just online) and there were tons of bad reviews. Most of the reviews I found complained about the wood quality and sturdiness. If I’m going to spend a thousand dollars, I need to see quality.
  4. Lowe’s Playset:
This is a pretty good option for a set, good quality and readily available. You can also purchase this one in parts, just the tower, slide, swings, etc. I’ve ranked this one lower than the rest since if you add on the standard stuff (tower, slide, roof, swing) it pushes the price around $1,300. You can get a better kit with one purchase at Sam’s. However if you’re looking for good quality and just one attachment, this may be the one for you.

NOTE: I purchased the Woodridge and and you can read my tips on putting the playset together here.

That’s a really nice playset you’ve got over there, actually there are lots of cheaper playground sets nowadays, all we need to do is to search and read more about the kind of thing before making decisions.

You’re right about that. When we were doing the research, we looked at everything from a basic $300 type of set up to the crazy $2,000+ ones. We ended up going with this one for several reasons such as quality, reviews, features, etc. One of the big reasons we went with this one is that I’m a big kid and thought it would be awesome to put together and watch the kids play!
